TJHS Fall 2015 Update - TJHS Is Thankful!

On this day before Thanksgiving, it is a great time to stop and reflect on the numerous positive things that are happening here at TJHS.  It also is a reminder of all the reasons we have to be THANKFUL.

Once again, we had a high number of students participate in fall sports.  Three of our fall teams finished in FIRST place in the GWOC North conference.  Two of our teams came in second place in the North.  Our 8th Grade Football team and Girls Cross Country team finished the season in first place in the GWOC North!  The 8th Grade Volleyball team finished the regular season in first place as well!  Our 7th Grade Football team and our 7th Grade Volleyball team both finished the season in second place in the North.  This means that five out of six of our fall teams finished in FIRST or SECOND place in the GWOC North!  What a successful fall season for our student-athletes...Congratulations!!  TJHS is THANKFUL for successful athletic programs!

Our 1st Quarter Academic Awards recognized students for Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll (3.5-3.74 GPA), and Principal's List (3.75-4.0 GPA).  We handed out 550 total awards!  This is a direct result of dedicated teachers and staff, hard-working students, and supportive families!  TJHS is THANKFUL for this winning combination!

Our Trophy Nut fundraiser was once again a success this year.  This will help us to increase access to mobile technology such as chromebooks.  The top 20 students were transported to lunch at Al's Pizza by our business partner, Erwin Chrysler Jeep Dodge.  A Dodge Viper and brand new Dodge Challengers and Chargers were used to transport the students.  Erwin even picked up the tab for lunch.  TJHS is THANKFUL to have Erwin Chrysler Jeep Dodge as a great business partner, and THANKFUL for all of our families who participated this year in the fundraiser!

Student council again collected canned goods and held a "penny war"  to raise money toward helping local families during this Thanksgiving season.  More than 1500 total canned good items were needed in order for TJHS to reach its goal this year.  In total we collected over 2100 canned good items!  The donations combined with the money from the "penny war" is providing 30 local families with a Thanksgiving meal and more.  TJHS is THANKFUL for an active student council who leads the building in such meaningful and service oriented activities!

Recently, our 8th grade students had the opportunity to take trips that will help guide them as they begin to think about what they would like to do in high school and beyond.  One of the goals of TJHS is to provide our students with the necessary tools and experiences that will allow them to begin formulating realistic plans for the future before they walk across the parking lot to Troy High School.  The Future Begins Today sponsored our 2nd annual trip to Wright State University last week.  This allowed our 8th grade students to visit a local college campus, learn about the various programs of study, and interact with a representative from WSU to answer any questions.  On Monday, we took our annual trip to Upper Valley Career Center.  This trip allows our students to see the different programs offered at UVCC, and begin to think about whether or not this learning environment would be for them.  Yesterday we took our 1st annual Troy area business trip.  All 8th grade students visited three of the ten following companies: Clopay, Raymath, Crown Equipment, Stillwater Industries, Hobart Brothers, West Troy Tool, American Honda, 3 Sigma, Kerber Sheet Metal, and UVMC.  This trip was sponsored by the Troy Development Council and the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce.  Senator Bill Beagle spoke to the students during lunch at the Crystal Room.  TJHS is THANKFUL for a community who supports excellent learning activities that will help shape the future of our young men and women!

I hope this Fall Update finds you and your family well as we head into the upcoming Holidays.  Thank you for your continued support of TJHS.  This building is a great place to work and learn because of our excellent staff and supportive families.  TJHS is THANKFUL!!

Go Trojans!

TJHS Summer 2015 Update

As we close in on the end of July it appears that summer sunshine has finally arrived.  Cool and soggy days have plagued early summer this year, but 80s and sunshine blanket the forecast!  This summer we have been busy preparing for the upcoming school year.  If you have ever been in a school building during the summer, the "Caution, Keep Off, Wet Wax on Floor" sign is an indicator that the custodial crew is hard at work ensuring the building is clean and the floors are shining when the students return in August.  The custodians at TJHS are in full swing to ensure this is true for August 19.

This year at TJHS we are excited to be able to offer a Pre-Engineering course as a part of our related arts offerings for 7th grade students.  This is possible through a partnership that we have formed with the Upper Valley Career Center.

Schedule pick-up for 7th and 8th grade students will continue on separate days.  Orientation for 7th grade students will be incorporated into the first day of school.

Below you will find some important information and dates as we head into August.

Parent Delivery/Pick-Up - When dropping a student off, use the one-way entrance off of Adams Street, proceed to TJHS, and drop off students at any point along the sidewalk in front; promptly continue to the one-way exit onto Adams Street.

Students may be picked up from the front of the building, though parking on Ferguson Drive (in front of the building) is not permitted as it is a fire lane.  Parking is available around the island in front of TJHS or in the lot to the north of the building.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF STUDENT CROSSWALKS, BUSES, AND OTHER VEHICLES!
If it becomes necessary for you to pick up your child/children at school, we ask that you:
  • Report to the office
  • Identify yourself
  • Sign your child/children out on our release chart
We do not release any student from school without parental permission, which can be granted by adding the name of the friend or relative to the emergency medical form on file in the office.

TJHS Spring 2015 Update

Where has the year gone?!?  This school year has flown by, and it is hard to believe that there are only two weeks of school remaining.  I would like to share with our families and school community is that our last day for students this year will be Friday, May 29th.  As we do at the end of each quarter, we will release students at 1:40pm on that day.

Our Spring sports season came to a close with the TJHS Girls Track Team bringing home the GWOC North Championship hardware!  Well done, ladies!!  There are many excellent learning activities taking place as we look forward to having a strong finish to another excellent school year at TJHS.  I encourage our students to approach the next two weeks with the same level of academic enthusiasm as they have throughout this school year.
