We've got Spirit!

Hello and welcome back to the 2012-2013 school year.  The year is off and running with classes in full swing.  I would like to highlight a new initiative in place this school year, the Spirit Advisory Competition.  Last year we began encouraging students to wear school colors to show their school spirit on Fridays.  The participating students were released to their lockers 1 minute early at the end of the day on Fridays.  This year we are ramping that up with a grade level Team challenge.  Each Friday during Advisory, teachers count the number of students who are dressed in school apparel and/or wearing school colors.  They then email the number of students participating out of the number of students present to Mr. Dilbone.

At this point the total is tallied for each of the teams.  The team with the highest percentage of participation wins the challenge and is announced on Monday morning.  The team leader from the winning team then sends a student to the office to retrieve the banner.  Below is a picture of one of the Troy Trojan banners that is presented to the winning team for the week.  There is one for 7^th grade and one for 8^th grade.  The teams display this in a prominent area for the week that they are the champions!  This challenge has become very competitive, and there has even been talk of "trades" among the teams!  Although there will be no trades, Fridays have been rather exciting mornings as the teams have taken great pride in attempting to bring home the banner each week.  Please help us to keep our school spirit alive and remind your student to wear their school colors on Friday!
